This is the second academy of the famous club, which opened in Ukraine after Kiev. Other members of the Portuguese delegation also attended the ceremony: Benfica FC Commercial Director Bernardo Carvalho, Benfica Academic Network Director Miguel Reisch and David Gomes, as well as Benfica FC Junior Scout Junior Thiago Silva.
The first symbolic blow was made by the sports director of the Benfica Football Academy of Ukraine, Sergey Kandaurov, who played three seasons in the Portuguese club and Luizao, who on that day set a personal record for selfies and signing autographs for students of the academy in Kharkov.
The next day, the whole Portuguese flew to Kiev, where they participated in the completion of the first children's international football tournament Benfica Cup-2019.
Together with 27 teams from different regions of Ukraine, the El-Bahir club from Jerusalem also participated in the struggle for the main trophies.
The partner of the tournament was the Ukrainian Football Association, which donated 100 goals to the teams that won prizes in three age groups and established 12 individual prizes for the best football players of various roles, which were presented by the vice president of the UAF Vadim Kostyuchenko.
“It was just incredible feelings! I want to note that the tournament was perfectly organized and was held at a fantastic level. All teams played very interesting football, for the sake of victory they gave all their strength. I saw that the Benfica Football Academy in Ukraine, which I opened in April, is actively developing, there are a lot of promising children involved here and this, of course, will benefit the development of Ukrainian football, ”said the legendary player Luizao after the end of the Benfica Cup-2019.
And the main scout of Benfica, Tiago Silva, said that he had already noticed 3 young football players for himself, whom he wants to reconsider during his next visit to Ukraine.
In their age groups they won: among the teams born in 2007 - Children's and Youth Sports School -1 city of Chervonograd, 2009 - Children's and Youth Sports School-15 from Kiev. 2010 - Smiga-Euroshpon team (Rivne region).
Many prizes for the tournament participants were prepared by partners of the Benfica Cup. The sports brand Decathlon awarded the best players in the teams, and the IT company Pri-Num, in addition to wonderful prizes, presented wonderful bouquets to two girls who played together with the guys in the football teams.
Toward the close of the tournament, the vice-president of the Ukrainian Football Association Vadim Kostyuchenko made an unexpected gift to the Benfica Ukraine Football Academy - a sculpture of a bronze eagle - a symbol of the Portuguese club.
Closing the tournament, Director of the Benfica Football Academy of Ukraine Maria Krivopishina assured that the Benfica Cup will become traditional and invited all teams to participate in the tournament in 2020.
